Story Bird: Birdlet

When I had my condo, I had a room set up for the birds where they could be out all day and away from any household hazards....I thought!  The window of their room faced the parking lot, and they were always in the window when I got home.

One afternoon I drove in, and Birdlet was sitting in the window as usual, running back and forth on the windowsill.  This window had lacy curtains over it to allow as much sunlight in the room as possible without it glaring in.  I stopped for a minute and chatted through the window with Birdlet, then went in, dumped my briefcase and purse, and went to change clothes.  So from the time I saw Birdlet until I opened the door to the bird room couldn't have been over 10 minutes.

When I DID open the door, there was Birdlet all right, but he didn't fly to me like he usually did.  When I checked to see what the problem was, in the 10 minutes he had been out of my sight he had somehow ripped a hole in one of the curtains and had a string twisted around his neck.  I broke the string and checked him over thoroughly, and thank heavens there was no damage or injury.  And he was perfectly calm, as if when he figured out he was tangled up, he just sat back thinking, "Well, she's home and will be here in a couple of minutes and she'll get me loose."

Those lace curtains went in the trash that very night!

Birdlet sure was lucky!  He remained calm.  A lot of our feathered kids would panic and injure themselves.  Please be careful with decorations in the home!!
