Story Bird: Petie

We used to clip millet sprays and different kinds of veggies to our birds cage bars using the clip-its.  They come in both plastic and metal varieties.  We had clipped a piece of broccoli to Petie's (our Red-Belly) cage, and she ate the broccoli off, and in doing so got her foot in the middle of the teeth of the clip-it, which closed down on her foot.  I was home and walked in and saw her foot stuck.  I was very lucky that I caught it as soon as I did, as she was in the process of trying to pull her foot out.  Had I not been home, the situation could have been disastrous.

I have gone to other methods of clipping items to the cages.  For some items, such as millet sprays, you can have the teeth completely around the spray so that the teeth are fully closed down and a bird can't get its foot between the teeth.
