Nikki had a very common bird toy. It was one of those toys with all the leather strips hanging down with wood and beads on it.  It was a fairly heavy toy so I thought it would be safe for her to have. I had been gone for a couple of hours and came home to do some work in my office.  I always glance at my birds for a quick inspection to make sure everything is okay.  At first glance it seemed to be although everyone was very very quiet.  Nikki was sitting on the side of her cage very quietly looking at me.  I spoke to her and then went to my office.  I was in there for about ten minutes thinking something isn't right here.  I went out and she was still sitting in the same spot which is highly abnormal for her.  This is a Moluccan that we are talking about here.  I immediately thought something was wrong.  I opened her cage and told her to step up which she tried to do and couldn't because her one leg was totally wrapped up in the toy.  There is absolutely no way she
could have gotten loose without chewing her leg off.  I got the scissors and promptly cut her loose and threw the toy in the trash.  This was a brand new toy that I had given her.  Needless to say it was never replaced with the same type!  People need to realize that every single toy has the potential to be a hazard if it is not inspected each and every day.
