Story Bird: Hotshot

My wife and I have four birds, two Sun Conures, a Moustache Parakeet and a blue Indian Ringneck.  Recently I was working at my computer when I heard a lot of squawking like a fight was going on.  When I walked in the living room Hotshot (Sun Conure) was fluttering and fighting with a toy on the perch. She had managed to open a split ring on the toy and get it hung in the hollow area under her bottom beak.

She stayed very calm while I turned her about to see exactly what had happened and how to get her out of it.  The ring slipped off easily and she wanted to stay cuddled up to my chest for 20 minutes afterward.  She had a small cut in the skin under her beak but otherwise appeared to be okay.  She did have some minor bleeding but that stopped within minutes of removing the ring.

I have some bird pain medicine, the vet called it birdy Tylenol, and I gave her a little of it that day and the next and she is doing very well.  The toy has been removed from the perch and will not be used again.
