Story Bird: Lucy
I bought Lucy a JungleTalk toy with half-inch strands of cloth hanging from
little square pieces of plastic. She enjoyed it right away. But the other
night, while I was in the other room on the PC, I heard this knocking or quiet
banging and she was unusually quiet. I went into the room where her cage is and
she was hanging upside down; the cloth had unraveled into threads and was
wrapped all around one of her feet -- she couldn't move the foot at all and she
was trying to grasp onto something with her other foot. I calmly unhooked the
toy from the top of the cage and let it drop and then calmly picked her up and
tried to unravel the threads; I didn't want to scare her with a scissors (she
has been a little nippy lately) but got one anyone and she seemed to understand
that I was trying to help her. The poor thing put her down on my chest while I
kept cutting and unraveling. Afterward she cuddled into me while I stroked her
head and neck; poor thing was shaking like a leaf. Thank God it happened while I
was home and it didn't cut her foot to pieces!
